A celebration and media workshop-press conference to present the WDC 2024 Program. Our San Diego Tijuana communities will celebrate receiving the World Design Capital designation for 2024 in a program that includes: ○ Multidisciplinary community performances ○ Launch of WDC 2024 World Design Spotlight ○ Launch of World Design Spotlight videos featuring stories by Taylor Guitars, CBX, and CECUT

The World Design Spotlight will showcase a carefully curated selection of design stories that shape our region. Through digital content capsules, we will share inspirational stories that highlight design-driven innovations, designers, design firms, design studios, and projects in the San Diego Tijuana region.

Expanded Present. Interweaving past, present, and future within design. The World Design Festival powered by Tijuana Design Week will be a five-day event, and will engage the cross-border community and international visitors to experience design in Tijuana through multiple programmatic activities, which include lectures, design exhibitions, public design workshops, and design studio open houses. The World Design Festival is held in partnership with Tijuana Design Week, organized by Enigma Creative.

Belonging: a shared responsibility for radical inclusion. The World Design Experience powered by Design Forward Alliance & San Diego Design Week is a seven-day event celebrating design across the San Diego Tijuana region. A community-led event that features programs such as live community discussions, design studio tours, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, films and podcasts from all disciplines of design. The World Design Experience will be powered by San Diego Design Week, organized by Design Forward Alliance in collaboration with Mingei International Museum.

Beyond  Boundaries, is a 2 day conference that provides a global platform for the evolution and exchange of ideas, insights and best practices from different countries, regions, and cities actively involved in developing, launching, and maintaining effective design-led urban policies, via panels, workshops and a signal speaker series. Its aim is to shape the future and enhance the well-being of urban inhabitants. As the world changes, policy will evolve too.  Join us as we seek to move beyond boundaries to design a better future. Can designing policy re-shape our world?

The World Design Network of Cities Meeting is a forum for public administrators, including the Chief Design Officers of WDC designated cities. Led by WDO, the meeting provides an opportunity for this unique cluster of WDC 2024 designated cities to maintain an active dialogue about the effective use of design. Leaders of other design effective cities may also be invited to attend this event.

The WDC Convocation Ceremony is a symbolic event highlighting the official “handover” of the WDC title from WDC San Diego Tijuana 2024 to the next host city. This event is a celebration that includes city officials, World Design Organization leadership, community stakeholders, media, political leadership and WDC 2026 planning team. The ceremony provides WDO with the opportunity to recognize those who contributed to the success of WDC San Diego Tijuana 2024 and share the preliminary findings of the Impact Study.

Among the selected initiatives, you’ll discover a diverse range of projects, events, exhibitions, activations, and symposia, many of which will offer opportunities for your active participation and engagement. The program offers multiple funding categories for activities, such as programs, projects, events, and festivals open to the public that align with World Design Capital 2024 Focus Areas.

The Legacy Program is the future-focused extension of our vibrant community program which prioritizes investment and support for initiatives with the potential to bring about long lasting transformative regional change. These impact projects aim to leave behind a transformed border landscape that is more inclusive, environmentally responsible, and economically prosperous for current and future generations.
