Suturing the Border: Re-Membering BAW/TAF highlights four core initiatives of Border Art Workshop/Taller de Arte Fronterizo, a groundbreaking project that incubated Chicano/transborder artists and signaled the borderlands as a critical site for creative work. Featuring exhibits by original members of BAW/TAF (recognizing membership shifted throughout peak activity in the 1980s – 1990s) and invited contributors, Suturing the Border: Re-Membering BAW/TAF is the first exhibit of a two-year project honoring and building upon the 54-year legacy of Centro Cultural de la Raza in engaging the borderlands through the arts and cultural exchange across the US/México borderlands.
