This exhibition celebrates the work of the globally acclaimed architect in anticipation of the San Diego Museum of Art’s collaboration with Foster + Partners for the extension and renovation of the Museum’s west-wing, due to break ground in tandem with the Museum’s centennial in 2026. Lord Norman Foster (British, b. 1935), has dedicated his life’s work to blending architecture with its natural environment and creating progressive structures that integrate holistically with their historical contexts. At the same time, he has also been a pioneer in sustainability. This exhibition will display twenty original architectural models that led to major Foster + Partners projects worldwide along the themes of: Museums and Community; Cultural Centers; Unification of Old and New; and Embracing the Environment. Sustainability is a common theme across all sections.
