About

Impact Project

The Sustainable Design Forum will take place on November 21, 2024, at UC San Diego Park & Market, in partnership with UC San Diego Global Initiatives. Co-hosted by the Kumeyaay and Maasai peoples, the forum will gather Indigenous leaders from around the world, alongside representatives from San Diego Sister Cities’ partnerships across Indigenous nations, including the US, Mexico, Australia, Japan, Kenya, Brazil, and beyond. This forum is the first of its kind, advancing San Diego’s sustainable future by integrating Indigenous knowledge.

The forum aims to inspire sustainable solutions by honoring and incorporating Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge into San Diego’s sustainability efforts. In observance of Native American Heritage Month, the forum will kick off Indigenous Heritage Week, which will include a series of Indigenous-led workshops, lectures, and cultural activities across university campuses in San Diego County. These events are organized in collaboration with local cultural institutions and businesses and will feature panel discussions, cultural exhibits, art displays, and more.
