Helen and Newton Harrison: California Work will explore the juncture between art and science, ecology, and social activism in the work of Helen Mayer and Newton Harrison. This project includes a groundbreaking, four-part exhibition, a scholarly catalog offering a critical reappraisal of Harrison’s California-based works, and public programming with leading scholars, artists, and scientists. Taking place at the La Jolla Historical Society (organizer), California Center for the Arts Escondido, San Diego Central Library Art Gallery, and Mandeville Art Gallery at UC San Diego, the exhibition will engage audiences from across San Diego County and beyond through engaging, interdisciplinary programming.
